Round Rock Texas Blog - Live From Round Rock

I was running through my stats and noticed that someone was search for “Round Rock Blog” and I was pretty far down on the search engine results when I think I should be higher. See I live in Round Rock Texas and have several posts about Round Rock that I have done over the last year since moving here.

Also there are a lot of people that are moving here from all over the country and especially from California where I am from. In fact I had gotten an email from someone in California asking about some resources about Round Rock and replied with a pretty lengthy email.

Here are a couple of resources that can give you a good idea of Round Rock:

  • http://impactnews.com - This is a free monthly newspaper that comes to residents of Round Rock and Pflugerville. It has a lot of info about new things that are happening in both cities
  • http://www.statesman.com/ - This is the big newspaper for the Austin area (Kind of like the LA Times or OC Register)
  • http://www.austin360.com/ - The entertainment section of the Stateman
  • http://www.roundrocktexas.gov/ - The city of Round Rock web site. This web site is one thing that sold me on Round Rock before we even visited. Round Rock really has it’s act together. Even though they already get a lot of sales tax revenue from Dell the try not to rely on it too much in case the computer industry isn’t doing so well. They are doing this be getting a lot of smaller businesses and retail stores here
  • http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=73 - The new outlet mall that opened. It is setup the same way as the Block at Orange (if you have ever been there).
  • http://dan.idano.net/category/round-rock-tx/ - my other personal blog. I have a section dedicated to Round Rock where I talk about different things having to do with Round Rock

Hopefully the above can give you some good insight into the area.

I just wanted to add that after a year of living here in Round Rock we love it. Compared to California this place is great. The people are nice, there is hardly any crime (Round Rock is the 14th safest city in the nation for it size bracket), and house prices and gas (currently $2.01/gallon right now) are great.

The job market is good as I got a job here after only looking 2 weeks and was able to get the same salary that I was making in Cali. The traffic is excellent compared to Cali and they just opened several toll roads that take you right into Austin. I work in Austin and I do 70 miles an hour all they way to work which is 20 + miles away - it takes me 25 minutes no matter what time of day or day of the week it is. The cost for my trip on the toll road is $0.75 in the morning and $1.00 coming home.

If I had to compare Round Rock to a city in So Cal I would say it is like nice parts of the City of Orange and Anaheim (Anaheim Hills) without being crowded, the traffic, or the high gas prices.

The main reason that we moved here is that we wanted a nice place to raise our kids and that is what we found. We love our house so much that we plan on retiring in it.We looked at Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio and know that this place is that best out of all of them.

Well that about sums it up. Round Rock is a great place and this blog is about the best place to get info about Round Rock right now.
