Lifehacker 2.0 - Mega Backlash
Wow, I was checking my RSS feeds this morning while eating breakfast and noticed that Lifehacker has redesigned their web site.
My first impression of the new design was that it was nice - nothing too freaky. I think that th ads on the left should line up with the other content one way or another, but other then that it is cool. I seem to be one of the few that thought that way though.
The comments for the post announcing the redesign lit up with people who were fuming over the redesign. People seem to generally not like it. At the time of this post there are about 150 comments of which about 40 are not negative.
I think that Lifehacker would have been in a better spot if they would have setup a beta preview in parallel with the actually site and then gotten feedback that way, I think that would have gone over a whole lot better. Then, people could still use the old format and get used to the new one over time. This is what Yahoo has been doing for about the last 6 months with their redesign.
Oh well, live and learn. I hope that they do not lose readers over this.
